Rocksteady has now decided that the time is ripe to launch Batman Arkham VR for the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift as well.

Back in October 2016 Rocksteady launched the Batman Arkham VR exclusively for the PlayStationVR. At the time, it was one of the few VR games that had the backing of a massive AAA studio, and naturally a lot of gamers were excited for it.

Rocksteady has now decided that the time is ripe to launch Batman Arkham VR for the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift as well. The game lets you take control of the caped crusader himself and go about Gotham as you take on a milieu of Batman’s iconic enemies. While the game really shone when it came to the detective parts in it, the core combat seemed rather disappointing.

So, why is this exciting? Because VR gaming is the future. With hardware becoming more capable of running VR games at a lower cost of entry, it is high time that some AAA studios threw some weight behind upcoming tech. Also, they need to make good games for the platform so that people can justify buying an expensive VR headset for games other than racing simulators.

Both NVIDIA and AMD are upping their game when it comes to VR performance with their latest GPU’s and several smaller studios have made some amazing VR games, but the genre has been missing big names that traditional gaming enjoys and Batman Arkham VR might just be the first step towards that!

It remains to be seen how well this port will run for PC users on a VIVE or a Oculus Rift but its definitely got more horsepower to work with thanks to desktop GPU’s. I am hoping that it’s a better port than the last Batman Game but more importantly this is a big stepping stone for big name VR games with the likes of Star Trek Bridge Crew also set to launch soon.
