We live in a country where there’s immense exposure to the sun all throughout the year. Therefore, skin damage due to harmful ultraviolet rays is a prominent problem, which can lead to serious ailments like skin cancer. The existing solution to this is applying sunscreen lotion to shield your skin from the harsh sun. However, it is difficult to estimate the duration of the sunscreen’s effectiveness, which is why L'Oreal's La Roche-Posay introduced the smart wearable patch.

The wearable patch helps you monitor the potentially dangerous effects on your health that the harmful ultraviolet rays can have. The patch contains photosensitive dyes that change colour when exposed to ultraviolet radiations. Once the patch changes colours, users can scan the patch through their smartphone via an app and gain access to various tips for protecting the skin.

"This is a way to tell them when to re-apply, that there is sun damage that is going on, even if you don't see it," dermatologist Dr Gene Rubinstein said to CBS News. "The wearables have the potential to engage someone like a teenager or a child to where they can understand that there's a link between how much sunscreen they put on, how much time they stay outside and the sun exposure they get," he added.

The patch was originally introduced in 2016 and is said to sustain three days worth of extensive usage that even involves swimming. The patch is free with sunscreen products from L’Oreal from their website.
