Google Assistant says Namaste', can answer in Hindi now

The Hindi Assistant is a server-side update and will be rolled out supported handsets over the course of time.

Google has been doing its bit to reach out the next billion in developing countries such as India. After the rollout of Android Go for offering optimised smartphone experiences on budget smartphones, Google has now rolled out Hindi support for the Assistant. Basically, your Assistant can now greet Namaste.

The Hindi Assistant is a server-side update, which means that the ability to converse in Hindi will be enabled automatically on your smartphones. Presently, the Hindi Assistant is only supported on smartphones running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above. However, Google will rollout support for the Hindi Assistant on devices running on Android Lollipop 5.0 as well as iPhones. Additionally, Android Go devices will also get support for a Hindi-speaking Google Assistant.

With the new update, users can communicate with Assistant in Hindi, commanding it to perform certain functions such as set an alarm or enquire cricket scores. Over the time, more functions will be added to the Hindi-speaking Assistant. If you want to try it out, the all you need to do is head to Language Settings of your device and change it to Hindi to see the changes. The call sign still stays as ‘Ok Google’.
