Samsung’s Galaxy Fold delayed, but Galaxy Fold 2 coming in 2020
We could see both Galaxy Fold devices launch for the general public well within the span of a single year.
The Galaxy Fold, the first foldable smartphone by Samsung was almost out for the release but then some issues surfaced and the device seemingly vanishged in thin air.
While Samsung promises that the device is still on its way, after rectifying the issues that stopped its rollout, the public’s hopes are left dangling by a thread as no official launch dates are in sight, and the competition is warming up with the Huawei Mate X nearing its launch.
Regardless, the Korean brand is reportedly not only prepping up for the Galaxy Fold’s launch but is also paving the way for a successor, the Fold 2, which could be released as early as in 2020.
The news comes from an unnamed source from a Taiwanese supply chain, via PhoneArena. The report suggests that Samsung new Fold 2 could feature a 6.7inch screen that folds horizontally. The device reportedly also features a 1inch screen on the outside to display notifications.
Samsung has apparently taken the approach to make their next foldable devices portable rather than just featuring big screens. The reports also suggest that Samsung will start sourcing its new 6.7inch bendable displays in November, before a mass production run and the launch of the New Fold 2 in the first half of 2020.
The original Galaxy Fold was recently spotted being used by a train passenger in India. This suggests that Samsung could already be releasing new units of the original Fold to Beta testers around the globe.
If all goes according to plan, we could see both Galaxy Fold devices launch for the general public well within the span of a single year.
