Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, and rumours suggest that a new "iPhone 17 Air" will be introduced alongside the other iPhone 17 models.
The iPhone 17 Air will be replacing the iPhone 17 Plus model and the features of the upcoming iPhone have been revealed.
Thinnest iPhone: According to a report by The Information, iPhone 17 Air will be the thinnest iPhone ever as the prototype of the device has a thickness of between 5mm and 6mm. In comparison, iPhone 16 standard models are 7.8mm thick and iPhone 16 Pro models are 8.25mm thick.
No Physical SIM card tray: As per the report, the device lacks a physical SIM card tray, meaning the device will rely entirely on eSIM technology. In the US, all the iPhone models from 14 and above lack a physical SIM card tray, while all the iPhones sold in other countries come with a SIM card tray.
Single Speaker: The iPhone 17 Air is said to have only a single speaker as their won’t be room for a second speaker on the bottom.
Camera: As per the report, the “iPhone 17 Air” will come with a single camera and has a "large, centered camera bump on its back”.
Battery: The device is said to have a smaller battery compared to other iPhones.
Modem: The “iPhone 17 Air” will feature Apple-designed 5G model, which is more power efficient that Qualcomm modems that are used in the current iPhones. However, compared to Qualcomm modems, Apple modem will lack Ultra-fast mmWave 5G support and slower overall cellular data speeds, the report said.
However, the design of the iPhone 17 Air is not yet finalised.
As previously rumoured, the “iPhone 17 Air” will feature a 6.6-inch display, A19 Chip, Face ID, Dynamic Island, 48MP rear camera, 24MP front camera and 8GB RAM for Apple Intelligence.
The “iPhone 17 Air” will be launched along with iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Models.
