Mumbai: The Times of India is being slammed by not just celebrities, but also by many regular readers who shared actress Deepika Padukone’s anger, when the paper tweeted a dated image of the star with a link to a web photo gallery with the headline: “OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show”.

Deepika immediately slammed the post with her tweet: “YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” She added, “Dont talk about Woman’s Empowerment when YOU don’t know how to RESPECT Women!”

TOI’s follow-up tweet urging the actress to take this as a “compliment” garnered further criticism as #IStandWithDeepikaPadukone soon became one of the top trending Twitter hashtags on Monday.
And one of the best tweets in support of the actress came from columnist Madhavan Narayanan who wrote, “They think @deepika padukone has a cleavage. I think she has got a spine.”

Kriti Sanon, who also tweeted in support of the actress says, “I am glad that Deepika reacted that way. It’s really a shame how easily media disrespects women to sell what they believe is “news”. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Many cameramen, while recording an interview zoom towards thighs or cleavage, specially when a girl is getting up from a chair to capture what they call an “oops moment”. It makes me sick!”

Meanwhile, RJ Malishka Mendonca says the fault lies in the fact that the media house tried to “objectify” the actress. She says, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the fact that the picture was taken. They could have put the picture and said nothing about it. That would have been alright. But instead they chose to make it sensational. By saying ‘OMG: Deepika’s cleavage show’ they have absolutely objectified her.”

She adds, “There’s a fine line between being funny and disrespectful and this one’s definitely the latter. Someone else would have let go of the issue, thinking this is the kind of stuff that keeps doing rounds on the Web, but Deepika took a stand.”

And these were not all. Tweets from various celebs kept pouring in, all in support of the actress.
