Wonder Woman trailer: Gal Gadot goes to war with her 'damsel in distress', Chris Pine
Here's a complete breakdown of Gal Gadot starrer Wonder Woman's new trailer, which has taken internet by storm.
Mumbai: The new ‘Wonder Woman’ lets us in on plenty of new scenes from the film, as well as new revelations. The trailer is well crafted with some of the best fight scenes, shots of Wonder Woman’s homeland, Themyscira, an island full of female Amazonian warriors and Gal Gadot aka Diana Prince’s heavy punches.
The warriors of Themyscira exist for a reason, they are guiding Doom’s Doorway; an entrance to Hades where plenty of evil characters are kept locked up. Nobody knows the exact location of Themyscira but by the looks of it, Chris Pine’s character, Steve Trevor discovers the island by chance encounter as he crashes near it's coast.
The trailer starts with few shots of Diana Prince as the voice over goes on saying, “I used to want to save the world. This beautiful place.. But the closer you get, the more you see the great darkness within. I learned this the hard way, a long, long time ago.”
And soon we see the Amazonian warriors going at it against German soldiers with some slow-motion kickass action sequences. Next thing we see is Hippolyta asking Steve "What’s your mission?" to which Steve replies, “To end the war.” When asked "What war" by Diana, Steve says, “The war to end all wars.”
Then the trailer takes us through a secret laboratory where ‘weapons far deadlier than one can imagine’ are being made and we get the first look of a woman (Elena Anaya) in a strange mask. While the trailer also introduces Danny Huston’s character, we he expresses his desire to make the world his.
After Steve is done explaining the terror that surrounds the world, Diana tells Hippolyta that she can’t just stand by while innocent lives are lost and decides to fight beside Steve in the war as she grabs her sword, shield and puts on her armor.
In the trailer, we see Diana saving Steve’s life several times. Clearly, Steve is the damsel in distress in this one as Diana is seen holding her own very well. Going by the trailer, one thing is for sure, Steve is more than just a pilot. Maybe some underground spy as so many people are after his life, it’s not wrong to say that he knows some grave secret.
As Diana steps in the human world, she is introduced to everyone as Steve’s secretary, which clearly doesn't go down well with her. In one of the scenes, we see Diana stopping a bullet aimed at Steve with her bracelet, which reminds us of Christopher Reeves’ Superman stopping a bullet from hitting Lois. Surprisingly, Diana is also seen flaunting fake glasses in the scene, just like Superman.
As the trailer progresses, we see Diana fighting head on as she stops bullets with ease, crashes through windows and walks inside a formal party with her sword tugged visibly under her dress. (You gotta have your sword with you at all times, right?) We also see Diana using her lasso on top of the watchtower, which is shot beautifully.
It’s also amazing to see Huston holding his own as he goes up against Diana. Clearly, Huston has a secret card tugged under his sleeve as he, in his right mind, dares to fight an Amazonian warrior solo, with a sword which is no match for Wonder Woman.
To add a little humour in an overall spiced up and action packed intense trailer, the video ends with Diana trying on a flowery dress while she quizzes Etta Candy (Lucy Davis) by asking “How can a woman possibly fight in this?” but its Etta who get the last word with “Fight? We use our principles. Although I am not opposed to engaging in a bit of fisticuffs should the occasion arise.”
