Kakinada: East Godavari district collector P. Prasanthi, stated that four employees of the Polavaram Project Left Canal—senior assistants K. Nukaraju, Karam Baby, special revenue inspector K. Kala Jyothi, and office subordinate K. Rajasekhar—have been suspended, and show-cause notices have been issued to two deputy Tahsildars, A. Kumari and A. Satya Devi, following the incident of burning documents related to the Polavaram Project.

She mentioned that a detailed departmental inquiry would be conducted into the incident. Deputy collector K. Vedavalli lodged a complaint with the Dowleswaram Police Station regarding the issue, and cases have been registered under section 326(f) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhitha and section 4 of the government property destruction act. Both a police investigation and a departmental inquiry will be carried out.

Prashanthi highlighted that the employees burnt the papers without obtaining prior permission from the officials, which demonstrated their negligence in their duties. She emphasised that a thorough inquiry would be conducted, and the state government has given clear instructions to employees of all departments regarding the organisation and security of files, which must be strictly followed. She further mentioned that the Rajamahendravaram revenue divisional officer had remarked that these were non-priority papers, but the collector asserted that the act of burning them without prior permission from higher officials constituted negligence in duty.
