Kakinada: ST panel urges govt to help rape victim

KAKINADA: The Schedule Tribes Commission member, Vadithya Sankar Naick, on Thursday urged the state government to help a girl who was raped at Nuziveedu Rural mandal and her family.
He consoled the family members and the girl at Nuziveedu rural mandal of Eluru district on Thursday. A five-year-old girl was abducted while she was sleeping with her parents on the verandah of her house and the accused took away the girl to an oil-palm garden and sexually assaulted her.
According to Eluru DSP K. V. P. Kishore, the police received information by 2.30 pm on August 5 and immediately took steps to nab the accused. The SP formed four teams headed by Eluru DSP Srinivasa Rao. Circle inspectors of Bhimadole, Nidamarru and Nuziveedu searched for the accused and the police alerted Gunturu and Palnadu SPs.
On August 6 evening, the accused, Miryala Jaya Rao, 33, of Kummarikota village in Rentachintala mandal of Palandau district was arrested and sent to remand on Wednesday. The accused had been arrested under POCSO Act by Rentachintala police.
On Thursday, Naick said the incident is most heinous and unfortunate and he greeted the police and the district administration as the accused was arrested. He said the government should provide ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the victim and the government should consider the case as a special one and take steps for giving stringent punishment to the accused.
ITDA project officer of K.R.Puram G.Srinu Kumar, in-charge RDO Bhaskar, in-charge tahsildar Subba Rao, child development project officer S. Y. Noorani, district agriculture officer Chamundeswari and others were present.
