Tirupati:Municipal administration and urban development minister Ponguru Narayana accused previous YSRC government’s leaders of illegally encroaching lands throughout the state.

Inaugurating a revenue summit at the Balaji Nagar Kalyana Mandapam in Nellore on Friday, he underlined that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s initiative to hold revenue sadassus are aimed at ensuring justice to genuine landowners.

The minister, accompanied by district collector O. Anand and RDO Anusha, received petitions from the public during the revenue summit. He directed officials to resolve the grievances swiftly.

Addressing the media later, Narayana said YSRC leaders had grabbed thousands of acres of valuable lands worth crores, from rural areas to urban spaces, for personal gain. “YSRC leaders have not spared anything, from industries to ports. They have instilled fear among ordinary citizens,” he observed.

To counter this, the minister said, the NDA alliance government has introduced the Land Grabbing Act, which imposes stringent penalties, including imprisonment ranging from 10 years to 14 years, on those encroaching government or private lands, he pointed out.

Narayana said the state government is holding revenue summits from December 6 to January 8, 2025, to correct past mistakes and ensure that genuine claimants receive justice. He underlined that the grievances raised during the summits will be resolved within a month.

Directing officials to expedite the resolution of land disputes, the minister reiterated the government's zero-tolerance of land encroachments.

District collector Anand outlined the plan of holding revenue summits in every village as per schedule. “Complete land records related to the village will be presented. Issues such as name corrections, inheritance and mutations will be resolved promptly. Minor grievances will be addressed during the gram sabha itself,” the collector stated.
