Kakinada: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended Ravulapalem circle inspector N. Anjaneyulu on Saturday for accepting a bribe.
According to ACB officials, Anjaneyulu demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from an accused individual, Lakshamana Raju, who had been booked in a previous cockfighting gambling case.
The bribe was allegedly solicited in exchange for altering the charges in the case against Raju, potentially reducing its severity. Anjaneyulu reportedly threatened Raju with non-bailable sections if the bribe was not paid.
Instead of succumbing to the pressure, Raju approached the ACB. Working with their assistance, Raju facilitated the arrest of Anjaneyulu while he was accepting the bribe money in his office located at Ravulapalem in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
This incident comes amidst pre-existing corruption allegations against Anjaneyulu stemming from his time as circle inspector at Tanuku Rural. Reports indicate that during his tenure at the Tanuku police station, an auto-driver in police custody for a theft case died under mysterious circumstances. Anjaneyulu is alleged to have then reached a compromise with the deceased's family with Rs 10 lakh.
