Anand Takes Charge, Gets Down to Business

Hyderabad: DGP-rank officer C.V. Anand on Monday assumed charge as Hyderabad police commissioner for the second time. Earlier, he served as the city police chief — kotwal — from December 2021 to October 2023.

“I am glad to take charge as the city police commissioner for the second time. I thank the state government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy,” Anand said, while taking charge at the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) at Banjara Hills on Monday.

Before taking charge, he met the Chief Minister to discuss the arrangements for the Ganesha festival and Milad-un-Nabi and other issues.

The Hyderabad police have made field-level arrangements and finalised action plans for the immersion of Ganesha idols on September 17 and Milad-un-Nabi procession on September 19.

Apart from law and order police, task force, traffic police, central paramilitary forces will be deployed for the immersion and Milad-Un-Nabi procession, Anand said.

“I will be holding a review meeting with the zonal heads and all the law and order, traffic armed forces and task force heads will make field duty arrangements till the conclusion of the Ganesha immersion and Milad-un-Nabi procession,” Anand said.

Speaking about the issues relating to traffic, Anand said he would conduct a meeting with traffic police officers and ensure that the traffic-related issues are resolved on priority.

“Friendly policing” is part of policing. At the same time it should be effective policing, whoever takes advantage of friendly policing will not be spared, the commissioner said.

Now onwards there will be strict policing on the criminals, rowdy sheeters, unsocial elements, history sheeters and any culprits who do not coordinate with the police officers on duty and break the law will have to face dire consequences as per law, he said.

During his previous term as the Hyderabad police commissioner, Anand was credited for introducing a series of significant IT initiatives. He also had woman SHOs, and adapted several effective policing measures to control drug menace, cyber frauds, violence against women, snatchings, property and bodily offences.

Other senior police officers Vikram Singh Mann, additional commissioner, law and order, Viswaprasad, additional commissioner traffic, Parimala Hananutan, DIG, ICCC; Gajarao Bhoopal, joint commissioner, administration, and other senior officers were present.
